The Company (Mathematical Services Limited) has its origins in 2013 after a lengthy period of employment at Renishaw plc. I was increasingly frustrated at the big corporates inflexibility with respect to roles and ways of working and indeed the cost of commercial software (possibly because of these reasons). Hence I decided to venture into my own besboke software development whilst also working as a Software Engineer contractor, through Agencies and an Umbrella Company. This website was founded at about this time. Sporadic trading continued like this for about 9 years with customers in the UK, Europe, India and Asia. A perennial difficulty was one of acceptance due to lack of formality of the offering and the structure (for example legally I was an employee of the Umbrella Company when operating as a contractor). To remove these difficulties the structure was converted to that of a Company Limited by Guarantee in 2022. This is a legal entity where all revenue is retained within the Company to fund its activities. There are no shareholders taking dividends. The activities of the Company broadened to include software development in various ares, book sales and publishing, manual and administrative work, funding and money transfer and indeed community and social activities.
